Split Calculator — Even Pacing Splits
Calculate split times for even-paced riding over any distance.
How We Calculate This
Split Time Calculation
The calculator divides your total distance into equal segments and calculates the cumulative time at each checkpoint assuming constant speed.
Speed = Total Distance / Total Time
Split Time = Split Distance / Speed
Each split shows the elapsed time from the start, making it easy to check your progress at each checkpoint.
Frequently Asked Questions
Even pacing means riding at a constant speed throughout, rather than starting fast and slowing down. Research shows even or slightly negative splits produce the best results in time trials and sportives.
Negative splits (second half faster) are generally better than positive splits. Start slightly conservatively and build speed as you warm up and gauge your effort.
Set checkpoints on your GPS computer at each split distance. Compare your actual time against the target split to see if you are ahead or behind schedule.
