Pace Calculator — Cycling Pace per Kilometre
Calculate your riding pace in minutes per kilometre or mile.
How We Calculate This
Pace Formula
Pace (min/km) = Total Time (minutes) / Distance (km)
Pace is the inverse of speed, expressed as time per unit distance. It tells you how many minutes it takes to cover each kilometre or mile.
Frequently Asked Questions
A pace of 2:00-3:00 min/km (20-30 km/h) is typical for recreational to club level cyclists. Elite riders can sustain under 1:30 min/km (over 40 km/h).
Speed (km/h) is more commonly used in cycling than pace. Pace is more common in running. However, pace can be useful for planning how long a ride will take.
Headwinds of 20 km/h can slow your pace by 15-25%. Tailwinds help, but not by the same amount due to the square relationship between speed and air resistance.
