Bike Cost Per Ride Calculator — True Cost of Each Ride

Calculate the real cost per ride based on bike price, accessories, maintenance and usage.

How We Calculate This

Cost Per Ride Formula

  • Total rides = Rides per week × Riding weeks per year (default 48) × Years owned
  • Resale value = Bike price × Resale value % (default 30%)
  • Net investment = Bike price − Resale value + Accessories + (Annual maintenance × Years owned)
  • Total cost = Net investment + (Nutrition per ride × Total rides)
  • Cost per ride = Total cost ÷ Total rides
  • Monthly average = Net investment ÷ (Years owned × 12) — excludes per-ride nutrition, which scales with how much you ride

We use riding weeks per year (default 48) rather than a flat 52 to allow for weeks lost to weather, travel or injury. Subtracting expected resale value gives you the true depreciation cost — the bike price you never get back — so the cost per ride reflects what cycling actually costs you over the bike's lifespan.
