Ride Time Calculator — Estimate Total Ride Time

Estimate total ride time including climbs and rest stops.

How We Calculate This

Ride Time Estimation

This uses the VAM method — the cycling equivalent of Naismith's rule (Cicerone) — where climbing time is added on top of the time to cover the flat distance.

  • Flat time = Distance ÷ Flat speed
  • Climb time = Elevation gain ÷ VAM, where VAM (m/h) = 3600 ÷ seconds-per-metre (default 4.8 s/m ≈ 750 m/h)
  • Moving time = Flat time + Climb time
  • Total time = Moving time + Stop time
