Gear Range Calculator — Total Drivetrain Range

Compare total gear range across different drivetrain setups.

How We Calculate This

Gear Range Calculation

Range % = (Highest Ratio ÷ Lowest Ratio) × 100

Where highest ratio = Big ring ÷ Smallest sprocket and lowest ratio = Small ring ÷ Largest sprocket. For example, a 50/34 compact with an 11-28 cassette gives (50÷11) ÷ (34÷28) × 100 = 4.55 ÷ 1.21 × 100 = 374%.
