Handlebar Width Calculator

Calculate ideal handlebar width from shoulder measurement and riding style.

How We Calculate This

Starting from your shoulder width, adjustments are made for riding style (road, gravel, MTB), bar type (drop, flat, riser) and flexibility. Drop and aero bars are quoted in centimetres (centre-to-centre at the hoods, the road convention); flat and riser bars are quoted in millimetres and run wider than your shoulders for leverage.

The result is rounded to the nearest standard size — road bars step in 2cm increments from 36cm to 46cm, while flat/riser bars are sold from 680mm to 820mm. Choosing outside-to-outside adds the ≈2cm (≈20mm) offset versus centre-to-centre. For flat bars, start wider and cut down in 5mm increments on each side until comfortable.
