Saddle Height Calculator — Optimal Seat Position

Calculate your optimal saddle height from inseam measurement.

How We Calculate This

Saddle Height Methods

  • Hamley (1967): Saddle Height = Inseam x 1.09 (measured from pedal axle to saddle top with crank at 6 o'clock)
  • LeMond: Saddle Height = Inseam x 0.883 (measured from BB centre to saddle top along seat tube)
  • Heel method: Saddle Height = Inseam x 1.065 (rider should just reach pedal at bottom with heel)

All methods provide a starting point. Fine-tune by 5–10 mm based on comfort and knee angle (25–35° of knee bend at the bottom of the pedal stroke — the Holmes method; aim nearer 25° for racers/time-triallists, nearer 35° for endurance riders or limited hamstring mobility).
